PAST
COACHES |
Washington University, founded in
1853, has a long tradition in football. The first recorded kick-off was in 1890 at
Sportsman's Park. Between 1898 and 1900, coach Arthur N. Sager recorded an 8-1-0
record. In recognition of the amusement corridor leading from the World's Fair site in Forest Park to the east edge of the Hill
Top campus, the Purities, named for their straight-laced academic code, became the Pikers
in 1905. National Football Hall of Fame coaches Jimmy Conzelman, Weeb Ewbanks and
Carl Snavely, along with Dave Puddington and Larry Kindbom have directed the Bears to a
winning tradition. |
